2020 Dr. Jack C. Hughston Physician of the Year Announced

Dr. David Palmer - Optim Orthopedics

The Georgia Athletic Trainers’ Association has named Dr. David Palmer as the recipient of the Dr. Jack C Hughston Physician of the Year Award. Dr. Palmer is part of Optim Orthopedics and serves as team physician for several schools in the Savannah area.

I am extremely honored to received the Jack Hughston award from the Georgia Athletic Trainers Association. I had no idea that I had been nominated so it was a surprise. It reaffirms that our efforts as a sports medicine program are being recognized and are useful to the community. The team of athletic trainers that are here at Optim Orthopedics deserve recognition as much as I do. - Dr. David Palmer

Dr. Palmer is known as a hands-on team doctor, extremely approachable and never too busy to lend a helping hand to his athletic trainers. He is considered a great mentor for ATs and a fantastic teacher – always displaying the utmost confidence in the ATs ability to treat his patients and allowing them to practice their skills to the best of their abilities – He believes in the strength of the sports medicine team and utilizes ATs as medical assistants within his own practice. Dr. Palmer is also applauded for not only being a mentor to the student-athletes under his care, but also being one of their most dedicated and passionate fans – he loves them, cares for them, and wants to see them succeed both on and off the field. An athletic trainer could find no greater champion for the profession than Dr. Palmer, and athletes are fortunate to have him on the sideline. Dr. Palmer truly exemplify the traits of the award’s namesake, Dr. Jack C Hughston, who was a pioneer in sports medicine care.
